Students are often surprised and disturbed to learn that many biblical scholars reject the notion that Jesus was anything more than a mere man. How can this be, they ask, if Jesus himself claimed to be the Son of God and even God himself? Were not the Gospels written by eyewitnesses or close associates of the eyewitnesses?
